Born into a modest family in rural Cambodia, Sopheap Chhay grew up witnessing the challenges faced by small businesses, including his parents’ shop, particularly in obtaining loans. This sparked a determination in him to transform the financial landscape in Cambodia.
Sopheap pursued education in finance abroad, earning a scholarship and gaining a broader perspective of financial systems and technology. Upon returning to Cambodia, he aimed to bring about change by establishing E-LI One, a platform providing fast business loans for local SMEs. The financial market was initially sceptical of his innovative approach, but Sopheap was relentless.
Starting E-LI One alone, he tackled every obstacle with unwavering resolve. His understanding of local businesses and unique financial solutions slowly gained recognition, attracting clients and investors. From a solitary venture, E-LI One expanded to a dedicated team of 20, all united under Sopheap’s vision.
Today, E-LI One is a testament to Sopheap’s tenacity and innovative thinking. His efforts have simplified the loan process for businesses, significantly altering Cambodia’s financial ecosystem. His journey, from humble beginnings to leading a pioneering financial organization, serves as a beacon of inspiration, especially for the Cambodian SMEs he has empowered.
